There’s not a whole lot of self awareness going on 6

Now, I don’t expect all quick blog posts to exhibit high degrees of complexity in their use of logic, but only rare posts display the contradictions and apparent lack of self awareness as this offering from Perry Noble.

As I look back on my former disliking of [John] Piper I have realized (and repented of) the way I acted.  I judged a man I didn’t even know…and the reason why is…

I allowed those who quoted him out of context and raped his teachings to attack and criticize me to influence how I felt about him…which was wrong!  I let them put a distaste in my mouth for a theology that I have grown quite fond of–and it wasn’t fair!

(BTW…why is it that many of the reformed guys are complete @$$holes?

Lesson obviously learned.

I wonder how John Piper would take this, considering that he is reformed.

Good question, though if you look earlier in the PN post, it’s clear that PN wants to pick Piper’s brain on leadership, not theology. That means that he can ignore the fact that Piper is a reformed *******.

I’m not sure Piper would be impressed that PN is “fond” of his particular theology. One would have thought theologies were something to be believed rather than liked.

seems like Nobel’s trying to play the blame game.

We may be misinterpreting PN. Should we so quickly assume that he thinks that being an A-hole is a bad thing? He likes enemas in the church, don’t forget.

JDuncan: Thanks for posting a link to Perry’s blog. I read the entry.

This is a striking bit of garbage:
“(BTW…why is it that many of the reformed guys are complete @$$holes? Did God REALLY call them to pick apart verb tenses and voice intonations of speakers who don’t say things exactly right or don’t use a particular word order?)

And if you are reformed and angry at the paragraph above…I was predestined before the foundations of the world to type it…so get over it! :-)”

He is both complimenting Piper for being a Reformed theologian, while mocking predestination (which is a key element of Reformed theology). 1) I wonder how appreciative Piper would be. 2) The only part that is really instructive is that by all appearances PN is the @$$hole here. He apologizes, but then continues to drop bombs. But, thanks to his understanding of Reformed theology, we now know why he is the @$$hole: he can’t help it. He was predestined. Thanks for the theological clarity Perry. I am convinced Paul would disagree with his absurd (mis)application of Ephesians 1.

Why didn’t he just say assholes?
At least he abstained from the APPEARANCE of evil.

    Oh wait…
