Tony Morgan leaves NewSpring

Most readers will already know this, but Tony Morgan announced that he’s leaving the NewSpring leadership team today.

Not that it matters much to him, but he has always struck me as a mature leader with a good head on him and someone who has a good understanding of what the new church movement is all about. He seems like someone I’d enjoy talking to.

I heartily agree with Perry Noble that we should pray that God will help him find a new opportunity to advance God’s kingdom. He has the gifts to do a lot of good work.

My interpretation of this statement is that it’s an accidental, unintentional explanation as to why you think he’s leaving Ace and NS. You know … like: of course he’s leaving NS. Any mature leader with these attributes will eventually clue in that these qualities are not always welcomed at NS.

    How off-base am I?

And I’d be really curious to know what methodological differences separate them enough to have TM leave, with no immediate destination.

Darn it, Tommy. I was really trying hard to pay him a compliment without taking a swipe at anyone.

But there might be something to how you read it.

I’ve thought through the issues here. And it appears if you read both TMorgan and Ace’s blog re: TMorgan’s exit, that basically NS fired TMorgan. Don’t be shocked. Churches fire pastors all the time. Keep reading.
Why else would they 1) pay him, 2) ask him to leave now (before finding another ministry position), and 3) not advertise his exit before? Months ago they could have announced his impending departure. Why the need to remove him now?

Now we know that Ace is a fan of the enema model not only for members who disagree, but also church staff who disagree with the vision or methodology.
